Dex for macOS

Privacy Policy

Effective July 17, 2026

This policy applies to the Mac App Store edition of Dex for macOS.

Data collection

Dex does not collect, transmit, sell, or share personal data with the developer or third party services on the developer's behalf. Dex has no advertising, analytics, telemetry, account system, or tracking.

Data stored on your Mac

Dex stores shortcut configuration and shortcut execution history locally in its macOS app container. When you select an application or folder, Dex stores an app scoped security bookmark so it can perform that shortcut later. This data stays on your Mac.

Dex retains local data until you remove it. You can clear history and remove shortcuts inside Dex. To delete all remaining Dex data, quit Dex and remove its app container at ~/Library/Containers/com.dantome.DexStore. Dex has no server copy to delete.

Keyboard access

Dex requests macOS Input Monitoring access to distinguish physical left and right modifier keys. Its passive monitor observes modifier key transitions only. It does not receive, store, or transmit typed character events. Configured system hotkeys are armed only while the selected physical modifier is held.

Actions involving other apps

Dex can ask macOS to open an application, folder, URL, or named Apple Shortcut. A destination app, website, or service may process information under its own privacy policy. Dex does not receive or record the content handled by those destinations.

Children

Dex does not knowingly collect data from children or anyone else.

Changes

If Dex data practices change, this policy and the App Store privacy disclosure will be updated before the affected version is released.
